Touring Itinerary:
Sat Meeting in
the centre of Killarney with the tour guide and the rest of the group.
Sun We set out on a cycle lane, which winds through Muckross
National Park. In the afternoon, the road climbs in the shadow of the
Macgillycuddy's Reeks, before we freewheel down to the coastal village
of Kenmare, where we stay the night.
Mon We leave Kerry by cycling along the coast road of the remote
Beara Peninsula, where we stay in the beautiful village of Allihies.
Tues In the morning we continue to follow the beautiful coastline
of the Beara Peninsula all the way to Castletownbere , where we spend
the next two days. You have the option of spending that afternoon in
Castletownbere or you can take a circular trip that brings you around
the Beara Way, a wonderful quiet ride with an ever changing landscape.
Wed A wide variety of activities can be organised from the town.
You can take a ferry across to Bear Island and spend the day exploring
it by bike. You can also visit the nearby ruins of Dunboy Castle and
Puxley Manor located in a wonderful setting by the sea. Finally for
those who are feeling fit there is a challenging hike up the Hungry
Hill, offering the most spectacular views of Bantry Bay. Alternatively
you could just spend the afternoon pottering around the village.
Thurs We cycle inland to our hotel in Gougane Barra, which is
an isolated splendor, over-looking the lake in this dramatic glacial
valley. It is Irelands first National Park and the source of the River
Lee. This is a beautifully peaceful place and an ideal setting for your
last night in the country before you head back to the hussle and bustle
of the great metropolis of Killarney!
Fri Heading homeward on little-known roads with swimming stops
in river pools along the way, we return to Killarney for a final evening
meal together and a night on the town.
Sat After breakfast you are free to head your separate ways.
